Owner nears £600m

Having spent £13.5 million on transfer fees during the whole of 2007, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich yesterday took his spending on players so far in 2008 to in excess of £40 million.

The signing of Bosingwa also took Abramovich's incredible outlay on Chelsea over the past five years to the brink of £600 million.

Financial figures released in February showed that he had spent £578 million on Chelsea, including the £140 million that it cost to buy the club.

Chelsea boss Avram Grant is eager to strengthen his squad in front of the next season, and he could break the English transfer record fee to get his hands on the best players

Daily Mirror reports that Chelsea tried to sign Liverpool's Fernando Torres in the January transfer window, but a bid of £ 40 million was not enough to get Torres.

The chase will continue and speculations are that Chelsea could break the English transfer record and bid up to £ 1 billion to get the Spanish forward.

Liverpool has earlier said that the player is not for sale, not for any price, but everyone in football knows that money can buy what you want if the price is right.

Will Liverpool afford to say no to £ 1 billion ?

Mnjah...pri Chelsea je ta dolg precej relativen, če se vzame v zakup, da 90% celotnega zneska "dolgujejo" Abramoviču. To je precej zavajujoč podatek. Bolj je "impresivna" Unitedova cifra. 81 mio GBP letnih obresti....
